Maricopa

Maricopa is one of the oldest communities in Arizona and it has played a key role in the development of the area. It’s located between Phoenix and Tucson and surrounded by the Saddleback Mountains, Sierra Estrellas, Haley Hills, and Palo Verde. In addition to its beautiful location and rich history, Maricopa has plenty of restaurants and entertainment options. Did you know that Maricopa has had several different locations and names? It started off as Maricopa Wells and was located near the southern bank of the Gila River. When the city developed west and south due to railroad line construction, it became known as Maricopaville. There were eventually changes with the railroad line construction plans, so Maricopaville moved a few miles east to accommodate those changes, which is its current location to this day. Over time, the city became known as Maricopa Junction, but the second half of that name eventually dropped off, so it simply became Maricopa.

There are some great places to check out in Maricopa. The Copper Sky Recreation Complex has sporting facilities, large parks, an aquatic center, and so much more. There’s also a museum, AK-Chin Circle Entertainment Center, and Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino.
